Rev. Dr. Gary J. Payton Sr, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in the year of 1984. Not long after that his passion grew to minister the word of God where ever he went. He would go to the prisons, missions, nursing homes, and even to the streets of Baltimore City. Pastor Payton believes in going where ever the Lord would lead him to go.

Pastor Payton served faithfully for three years as a Deacon in training, and in the year of 1987 he was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Elder Raymond Holcomb at the "Thank God Of Jesus Church" in Baltimore city. He served in the office of Deacon for nearly two years before the Lord called Pastor Payton to Preach God's word; being licensed to preach the Gospel on July 14, 1989. Pastor Payton was then led by the Lord to transition his family, and himself to the "Sweet Fellowship Baptist Church were he served as the Assistant to the Pastor, and he was later ordained to the Gospel ministry in the year of 1998.

A mighty move of God took place in Pastor Gary J. Payton's life when the Lord called him, and his family to Pastor the "New Covenant Evangelistic Outreach Church". Dr. Payton was blessed to Pastor for  nearly eight years under the unction of the Holy Spirit.

Through much prayer and fasting Pastor Gary J. Payton Sr, and his congregation were led to join the "St.James Free Baptist Church" on January 28, 2007, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Pett Allen Sr. What a mighty move of God that was! Upon joining Pastor Payton received the title of "Assistant to the Pastor", and on July 19, 2009 Pastor Payton was installed as the Assistant Pastor of the St. James Free Baptist Church. Upon the passing of Pastor, Rev. Dr. Pett Allen Sr, on December 24, 2014, it was his desire along with the leadership of St. James Free Baptist Church to install Rev. Dr. Gary J. Payton Sr, as the Pastor of the St. James Free Baptist Church.

Rev. Dr. Gary J. Payton Sr, has dedicated his life to the work of the Lord. He is a man who does not and will not compromise the Word, but uses it to edify and strengthen the people of God to love the Lord, and his word. Dr. Payton truly has committed his life to his calling as a Gospel Preacher. Dr. Payton received some of his training from the Baltimore School Of The Bible. Pastor Payton later obtained a B.A. Degree in Christian Ministries from the Sure Foundation Institute, a Masters Degree in Theology, and a Doctoral Degree in Theology from The Philadelphia Bible Institute Bible College & Seminary.

This man of God is known by what he flees from, who he follows after, and who he is faithful to. Pastor Gary J. Payton Sr truly is a man of God!

He attended Baltimore City Public Schools, and in June of 2006, graduated from Dr. Samuel L Banks High School #420. In 2008, he became a Correctional Officer for the state of Maryland, where he is still currently employed.

Minister Wheeler has one son, Jawon L. Wheeler Jr. and is a descendant from a family of preachers, pastors, ushers, deacons, and singers.

Minister Wheeler dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized at First Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church where Bishop Oscar E. Brown is the Pastor. There he served as a member of the youth choir and dedicated servant of God. When he was not at his home church, he worshiped with Freedom Baptist Missionary Church where his grandmother Doris Sullivan and many other relatives are members.

In March of 2012, he became a member of Freedom Baptist Missionary Church where he recommitted his life to Christ. He came running to God as a willing worker, serving as the sound engineer (2012), and a Praise and Worship Leader (2013).

In November 2013, Minister Wheeler announced his calling into the ministry. On March 28, 2014 while under the leadership of Pastor James A. Johnson, he preached his initial sermon, became a licensed Minster of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and  served as the Youth Minister at Freedom Baptist Missionary Church for nearly 3 years. On December 4, 2016 Minister Jawon L. Wheeler Sr was led by the Holy Spirit to join the St. James Free Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Gary J. Payton Sr, where he faithfully serves as an Associate Minister.

Lead by the unction of the Holy Spirit Min Jawon L. Wheeler SR proposed to the love of his life Tiffany J. Payton on January 1, 2017. Eager to be obedient Min. Wheeler and Sis. Payton tied the knot on April 1, 2017, but that wasn't enough! Min. Jawon L Wheeler SR married his bride Tiffany J. Wheeler for a second time amongst a host of family and friends on April 15,2017. Blessing him with one daughter Ma'Lyhan Partlow.

As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:7, Minister Wheeler stands firm on walking with God by faith and not by sight. His favorite scripture is Psalms 23:1-6 "The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.

Amen
